There are parts of these books that weren’t easy to write. Not because the words were hard to find, but because putting them down made them real. I’ve thought a lot about the difference between writing that protects you and writing that exposes you, and which one actually does the reader any good. Spoiler: it’s not the kind that plays it safe.
