She Writes What She Knows. And She Knows a Lot.
Hello. My Name is
Amy!
That sentence is the simplest and most complicated thing I can tell you. Because behind it is a story three books worth, with a fourth already waiting in the wings, and it all started with a name I didn’t want to put on the cover.
M.E. Austin is my pen name. It was chosen with care, and with someone else in mind, Jason, who is woven into this story whether he likes it or not. The name holds both of us, if you look at it just right. A small thing that means something. A habit of mine.
I didn’t plan to write more than one book. The Domino Affect was supposed to be it one complete story, start to finish, tied up and done. But life doesn’t work that way. Mine certainly didn’t. And so a second book happened. And then a third. And now there are over 300,000 words in this series, with more sitting quietly in a folder called Book Four, waiting for its turn.
I write about Amy, a character who shares my name and probably more than a little of my life. Her plans, her patterns, her people, her messes. The things she survives and the things that still trip her up. The moments that are funny, even when they shouldn’t be. The moments that hurt, even when they’re ordinary.
I write the way I think, raw, honest, and in no particular hurry to get to the tidy version. Because there isn’t always a tidy version.
The ride is still going. Amy’s still on it. And so am I.
